I think it is safe to say that most of us will be happy to wave goodbye to 2020. It has been a strange and difficult year but also one of new challenges and discovery. We have all had to adapt to new ways of living and working and have uncovered strengths we perhaps didn’t know we had. Not only did we discover a new resilience but we also demonstrated, in true WGGS style, our willingness to help others. Because of, and in spite of the circumstances, many of you came forward with offers of help for the existing students and also showed support for those that left so abruptly into such an uncertain landscape. Thank you, you are truly amazing and your help is really appeciated! A summary of these and other news from the year will be gathered in the February newsletter.
In the meantime – looking forward, I thought it would be good to share with you a taster of some of the things you can expect to see throughout 2021:
Virtual Tour – you have been telling us where you would like to ‘visit’ so that we can produce a video to be viewed at any time, from wherever you are. See what’s changed in and around the school (and quite possibly what hasn’t)!
Business Directory – an opportunity to find or promote Old Grammarian businesses - help us grow the resource in 2021 by registering your business for your fellow alumna to discover.
Jobs Board – we are still building this resource and are always on the look-out for new posts, vacancies, internships, employment schemes and more.
Change to the Newsletter – after the summary of 2020 has been published we will be tyring out a new format for the new year and sending you a monthly update straight to your inbox.
A little bird tells me…. Circumstances permitting - it is rumoured that plans are afoot for a Class of ’81 reunion to be held at the school. This is being organised by a member of the class and we will keep you posted once we have more news. We have set up a Class of ’81 Club in anticipation, so if you left Year 13 in 1981 (or Year 11 in 1979) please feel free to join!
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Here's to 2021!
Best wishes
