Annual Events |
It was National Careers Week last week, and the students had the opportunity to find out about a range of different careers. On Tuesday last week we ran our Creative Careers Fair which saw 20 parents, alumnae, local employers, and training providers come and answer questions about careers in TV, music, radio, dance, theatre, marketing, media, graphic design, journalism, fashion, and event management. It was lovely to see students from all year groups making the most of this opportunity, and our visitors were very impressed by their conduct and the sensible questions asked by all.
We would like to thank the two alumnae that came for the event, Laura Cull who spoke to the students about Television Production and Zoe Thompson who gave advice about Radio Production. It is invaluable for current students to meet with successful alumnae as positive role models on what a Watford Girl can achieve.
Zoe comments:
"I always talk about my time at Watford Girls with admiration, it was a wonderful school which sent me off into the world with many skills. However as someone who knew they weren’t destined to work in a traditional industry Watford Girls wasn’t always sure how best to help me. To be invited to a careers fair solely focused on creative industries was the most wonderful breath of fresh air. Had I been a student attending, it would have been the most inspirational day and I could see for some of the students attending, it was for them too!
To be surrounded by alumni, local business people and parents of students who all wanted to show that there are so many different kinds of jobs, was a joy and a pleasure."
If you are interested in coming back to school and speaking to our current students about your experience, please ensure your options are up to date on your record. We have many opportunities throughout the year.
Mrs Arazi and Mrs Begum from Careers would like to thank you to all our visitors who took part in this, and to the students who attended.
