We are saddened to pass on the news that Fiona Shore, a beloved member of the Watford Grammar School for Girls community, has passed away.
Fiona Shore represented the very best values of a member of the Watford Girls Community. Following a long career as a producer at the BBC, Fiona made use of her Theology Degree when she joined the RS Department at WGGS in 1996. Although she officially stopped teaching in 2004, Fiona never ended her relationship with the school. With Mrs Jenny Smith, she ran the Year 7 residential trip to Bude, creating many happy memories for students and staff alike, from fancy dress night to early morning swims and the inevitable ‘weepy Wednesdays’ when the rigours of the week got a bit much and pupils were encouraged to keep going, which they did and the fun resumed.
Fiona was a long serving member of the Governing Body, and she agreed to become the Chair in 2017. Fiona was incredibly compassionate in all areas of life, from providing encouragement to Year 7 pupils, to staff when they needed to know that their concerns were being heard to members of the Leadership Team who always knew that they had her support. She had the courage to take a stance when school funding was threatening the curriculum, her joint letter to the Government raised the profile of the school’s concerns.
Fiona’s legacy will be seen throughout the school and in the memories of the many alumnae whose lives she changed through her teaching, trips to Bude and Amsterdam and her leadership of the Governing Body.
If anyone from the community has any memories or stories of Fiona, please do share them in the comments section.
Our thoughts are with her family and friends.
