The family of Old Girl MollieThomas née Norcutt, have created a £1000 fund to support Year 7 pupils who may struggle financially when joining the school.  The fund can be used for buying uniform, a device or other items required when joining the school.

Muriel (known as Mollie) Norcutt passed the entrance exam to join WGGS in 1939. She loved learning and played the piano throughout her life.  Mollie’s Father served as a soldier in the 1st World War and then worked as a labourer, he died in May 1944. Mollie’s Mother worked in munitions during the 1st World War and then cleaner in local homes.  The family were considerably poorer than many of the girls in her year and never felt she could invite her classmates to her home.  Mollie gained a place at University in 1945 but because of the death of her Father, her Mother wanted her to go to work instead. The teachers of WGGS arranged for her to take a fully paid for Teacher Training Course at St Paul’s & St Mary’s Cheltenham. She met her husband at the College and then taught in schools in Dorset, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.
