Over the school year we invite volunteer alumnae, parents and friends of the school to attend our careers related events. The volunteers enthuse, inspire and ignite the imaginations of current WGGS students, often giving them guidance and an insight into a career or university course that they would like to pursue.
If you would like to join the group of volunteers who enhance the girls’ education and vision for the future, please register via our Volunteering page.
See the list below for the variety of ways your time can make a difference to the students of WGGS:
FACE THE FUTURE – Sixth Form Interview day
In 2018 FACE the Future saw its 30th year. Formerly known as Into the Future, this exceptionally important day gives the Year 12 girls the opportunity to experience at least two mock interviews (within their subject range where possible). The volunteer interviewers span a wide variety of employment and university knowledge and occasionally we call for assistance in an undersubscribed sector. Our volunteer interviewers receive an interviewee pack before the day, giving them an opportunity to read their allocated students’ CVs and to prepare the interviews. On the day itself, the interviewers are teamed up with a member of staff, joining us for a complimentary lunch at 12.00 noon before spending the afternoon conducting a series of half hour interviews. Year on year the positive feedback from the volunteers and the girls confirms the value of this long running highlight of the WGGS calendar.
Organised by: Ms Rachel Aldridge and Mrs Sonal Raikundalia
Time of year: Usually the end of June
GENERAL CAREERS TALKS
Throughout the school year we offer the students talks on a variety of careers, university options, apprenticeship schemes etc. These can take place during or at the end of the school day, as arranged between the volunteer and the staff member in the relevant department. Generally the talk lasts for half an hour or so and include a Q and A session for the girls.

Time of year: Ad hoc
YEAR 12 WORK PLACEMENT (Age 16-17)
Students can gain invaluable experience from working within the environment of their particular area of interest. The students arrange their own work placements with the assistance of Mrs Sonal Raikundalia. The placements run throughout the year and we would be glad to hear from you if you can accommodate any students within your sector.
Contact: Sonal Raikundalia
Time of Year: Preferably during the school holidays or one placement of up to a maximum of 3 days outside of the school holidays. Click here for the school calendar.
CAREERS FAIRS
We will be running these after school events again in the future. They may be industry/sector or degree specific or more all-encompassing events. If you would like to add your name to a list of prospective stand holders we will be happy to hear from you.
